Dog-biting ticket is real pain in the...

Second time is the charm for dog-owner Gordy Jamison, who received a citation for this occurrence. This is the second time his dog, a mixed Chow, has bitten a child. You would think he would learn after paying for a leash law violation and having his pooch quarantined for 10 days after the first instance. Hopefully he'll be quarantined after the second.

School system to cut funds for restaurant

The Ticonderago County school system is planning to cut funding for The Eatery, a school-run restaurant that allows special-education students to get experience working in the food industry. The move will save the schools up to $50,000 a year. The school system seems to be comfortable cutting the 80 relationships The Eatery has with other Midville-area restaurants to get their special-needs students jobs.

Will coaching change prove successful?

After a 12-year career, Rickey Rust is resigning as head baseball coach for Ticonderoga County, not by choice. Rust is a proven winner with a track record of district titles and district tournament wins, boasting an average of 15 wins a season. I'm not sure this was the right move by County, as they are going from experience to lack of. No one has been named as Rust's replacement, which leaves me quite skeptical of the team's chances.

Fighting with God: the Ten Commandments story

Ticonderoga is still in the stone ages. They’re fighting a losing battle on the federal level and evidence of this can be found after round one of delegations at the Supreme Court. The county has no angle on the defendant other than he hadn’t actually visited the county enough to be offended by the religious statues. Now everyone non-religious has been offended by Ticonderoga County.

If Moses was fighting the Supreme Court, ...

Elizabeth City to vote yes or no on hotel

Although not initially on the ballot, a referendum has made its way on. Facing voters is a yes/no decision that would approve public funds for a new downtown hotel and convention center. It will be on the June 5 ballot, and restricting it to city residents only is a conservative, yet practical, motion. It is good to see the strong support of the local government in on this project, and expect to see a high voter turnout.

Family farms growing extinct

Ticonderoga County’s family farms have been on the decline for the last 40 years, and agricultural officials say there is no comeback in sight. Jeff Mackey, a professor of sociology at Ticonderoga College, stated that family farms are becoming “as rare as the dinosaur.” Numbers are down since 1985 when there were more than 800 working farms in the county.

Ford Makes Bank

Maybe American cars don't suck. With Ford reporting jaw-dropping profits for their third quarter, the $1 billion in profit provide some relief to our ailing economy. After years of on-going losses, this comes as a sigh of relief to both producer and consumer.

Ford reported that their third quarter profits totaled nearly $1 billion. Ford President and CEO Alan Mulally said the margin shows how Ford "is making tremendous progress." Production has also increased 5%. The reported profits come after years of losses.

The Cash for Clunkers program appears to have aided Ford in posting nearly $1 billion in profits. This astonishing third quarter seems to correlate well, but is it actually a causal relationship? We seem to be ignoring the 5% increase in Ford's production as well as an increase global automobile revenue.

I leave you with the grain of sand in life's hourglass

Sometimes, I wish I knew what to talk about. When there are infinite yet finite topics to discuss, it is really hard to zone in on one that should be done as an assignment. Why not use the topic that was used to write this assignment? I'm talking about procrastination.

There are three main reasons why procrastination sucks:

  • gets you behind on everything
  • you forgot what you actually were supposed to do
  • it feels so good

I've already seen the movie "Catch Me If You Can", but Leo's stunning looks

and Tom's wonderful acting, i can't help but stare at the television. Why write an article on a blog for a grade when I can shoot my nerf gun at ESPN sports commentators? Unlike the millions of kids that abuse amphetamines every year on college campus to focus, I get distracted by miniscule things such as video games (Borderlands and Halo 3: ODST generally eat 23 out of 24 hours in my day). The worst part?

    "I love to procrastinate!"

    As I was saying ...
